Visitation Guidelines
Each patient is informed of their right to receive the visitors they designate, including but not limited to spouse, domestic partner (including a same sex domestic partner), another family member, or a friend, and their right to withdraw or deny such consent at any time.
When visiting:
- Visitors are asked to leave any personal/valuable items in your vehicle. This includes the following items: purses, cellphones, backpacks/briefcases. No food or drink, lighters/matches, or any other potentially dangerous items.
- Street parking is available close to the hospital as well as behind the Weiss parking garage.
- You MUST be listed as an “approved visitor” identified by the patient.
- All visitors must sign in.
- Reception will obtain a government-issued ID or other identification.
- All visitors will be expected to wear a visitor badge during their visit.
- To maintain a safe, therapeutic environment, no more than two (2) visitors at one time may visit a patient, unless approved by the charge nurse.
- Patients are permitted to receive packages while at the hospital. All packages will be retained at the reception desk until a staff member, in the presence of the patient or family, checks the contents for articles that may be harmful or dangerous to the patient.
- Visitations with a patient may be terminated at any time that such visit appears to be detrimental to the patient. Any terminated visit will be documented in the medical record.
- Children under 12 are not permitted to visit in the hospital. The attending physician/covering practitioner may write an order to allow an exception under special circumstances.
- Once visit has concluded, visitors will be escorted back to the locker to retrieve personal belongings.
- Sign out upon leaving and return the visitor badge.

- No smoking on the premises. Vaping and animals are prohibited.
- No firearms or weapons are allowed on the premises.
- Cellphone usage is prohibited.
- Keep patient information confidential. Do not discuss patient information.
- No visitors will be permitted if you are known to have or have recently recovered from an infectious disease. Let’s keep our patients and staff safe!
What To Expect When Visiting a Patient
- Visitor Check-In
- Visitor signs in at reception.
- Reception collects visitor ID and places it in the ID container.
- Reception verifies that the visitor is on the approved visitation list.
- Reception notifies the patient’s unit/floor.
- Pre-visit Screening & Preparation
- Reception/security escorts the visitor to the locker area if they need to store personal items (coat, purse, phone, etc.). Note: Visitors are encouraged to leave valuables in their vehicle.
- Security/reception conducts a wand screening.
- Escort to Visitation Area
- Reception/security escorts the visitor to the cafeteria (designated visitation space).
- Visitor sits in the designated visitor chair, at least 5 feet from the patient’s designated seat.
- Reception/security reviews visitation rules:
- No physical contact; maintain arm’s length distance.
- No contraband, food, or unapproved items.
- Patient Escort & Supervision
- BHA/RN escorts the patient from the unit to the cafeteria and remains with the patient at all times.
- Staff must maintain continuous lineofsight supervision.
- BHA/RN seats the patient in the designated chair and reinforces no touch visitation rules.
- End of Visit
- BHA notifies reception/security that the visit has ended.
- BHA escorts the patient back to the unit.
- Security escorts the visitor to the lockers to retrieve belongings.
- Reception/security escorts the visitor out of the building.
